Du Toitskloof Wines has
announced that Standard Bank will co-sponsor its recently launched Wine Writer
of the Year competition.
The competition, which
aims to reward in-depth writing on challenges facing the wine industry, is a
first for South Africa in that all the participants have to submit an article
on the same topic.
Marius Louw, managing
director of Du Toitskloof Wines, said Standard Bank’s involvement would lend
further stature to the competition. “Like us, they believe the important
contribution wine writers make to the industry should be recognized and
rewarded.”
“We have structured the
competition to provide wine writers with the opportunity to submit thoroughly
researched articles based on a different topic every year. In this way we hope
they will be encouraged to provide fresh insights into the South African wine industry.
The 2013 Du Toitskloof
Wine Writer of the Year competition, in association with Standard Bank, is open
to published wine writers who have to submit, by 27 September, an in-depth
article on the topic “The consequences of climate change for the South African
wine industry”. There is a
single prize of R30 000 for the winning entry. The auditing firm PwC will
oversee every stage of the competition.
