Constantia Glen TWO 2012
Constantia Glen, the magnificently appointed boutique wine estate known for exceptional, award winning Bordeaux-style wines, has released the 2012 vintage of the Constantia Glen TWO, marking the second vintage of this lightly wooded white wine which made its debut last year.
Composed of 71% Sauvignon Blanc and 29% Sémillon, this cool climate wine has a vibrant intensity and remarkable fruit concentration with uplifting aromas of nectarine, grapefruit and elderberry supported by undertones of oak flavours imparted during barrel fermentation. The individual components were vinified separately and fermented and matured on the lees for six months in new, 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill oak barrels before blending and a light filtration prior to bottling.
“This is the second year we have produced our wooded Bordeaux-style white, a classic Constantia wine that will integrate beautifully for five to ten years from harvest. In comparison to the previous vintage, it shows fantastic freshness, aromatics and improved integration with the oak. This is largely due to a slightly greater component of Sauvignon Blanc that has a higher natural acidity than Sémillon. The notable Sémillon component still adds a wonderful richness to the mouthfeel of the wine,” says winemaker Justin van Wyk, who recommends enjoying the wine with Asian-style smoked duck breast salad or veal wrapped in prosciutto and rosemary.
The Constantia Glen TWO 2012 is available exclusively at the tasting room for R175.
