NEW SCOTTISH LEADER LAUNCHES FIRST IN SOUTH AFRICA

Master distiller for Scottish Leader Ian MacMillan demonstrates what to look out for when tasting the new Scottish Leader Original blend.

Ian MacMillan, Scottish Leader’s master distiller, was the man of the hour when he was in Johannesburg for the first in a series of global launches of this updated Scotch whisky which is sold in 60 countries.

South Africa, second only to Taiwan as the most popular market for Scottish Leader, was chosen as the very first market to receive the new-generation, new-look Scottish Leader range. Its local debut will be followed by an international introduction that will begin in April 2015. 

The brand has been revitalised with a new look, an enhanced recipe with an increased single-malt content for what is now positioned as Scottish Leader Original, and the introduction of an additional, very premium blend called Scottish Leader Signature. 

Scottish Leader Original has a warm, honey-sweet and delicately smoky taste with a silky smooth finish. “The core elements of the blend so familiar to Scottish Leader lovers have been retained,” MacMillan said.  

“We have just finessed the composition, increasing the single-malt component, to give it greater richness and balance.  It remains immediately recognisable to those who have come to love Scottish Leader.

“With Scottish Leader Signature, we’ve amplified the Island malts influence to give Scotch lovers a new, complex and layered whisky offering with a very rich, smoky profile.”

SA marketing manager Taygan Govinden described the new, refreshed packaging as “modern, tall and proud, showcasing the new soaring eagle brand icon, an inherently Scottish symbol which conveys success, vision and power - the characteristics of a great leader and the essence of the Scottish Leader brand.”

MacMillan was in Johannesburg not only to launch his new innovations to media and trade, but also to give consumers a preview and taste of the new packaging, branding and whiskies at the 12^th annual FNB Whisky Live Festival that took place in Sandton in November.

Scottish Leader Original, in 1 litre, 750 ml and 200 ml packs, and Signature in 750 ml packaging, will be available at leading South African liquor outlets from December 2014.
