2006 Yannick Thonet Mondeuse Vin de Savoie 83+ - 85+ Points

2006 Yannick Thonet Mondeuse Vin de Savoie 83+ - 85+ Points

Clear, bright, ruby red with slight purple rim, medium plus concentration, more akin to Burgundy than Rhône, low viscosity.

Clean, low plus viscosity, with primary fruit of young berry, just ripe strawberry and sour cherries, hints of dried white roses, lavender, touch of rhubard and peach kernel, delicate spiciness, earthy, kind of a cross between Burgundian complexity and Southern Rhone warmth and complexity, tends toward a Burgundian village in a generous year.
Mineral is prominent with clay and white stone minerality, even stony, large wood / barrel influence evident, subtle integration, respecting the delicate fruit profile.
Dry, confirms the delicate red fruits, new flavours of rosehip tea leaf character with hints of leather, stuffy mid palate, medium plus acidity, almost crunchy for a red, low alcohol, medium plus finish and complexity.
Fine representation of a cool climate wine with Burgundian delicacy.
Now until 2014.

Mondeuse is a rare grape variety, and one of the oldest of Savoie, less than 200 ha were still grown in 2000, another for the challenge in South Africa, to bring back some cuttings? Also grown in the Bugey region.
