Remhoogte Estate Simonsberg Stellenbosch Merlot Reserve 2007 91 Points

Remhoogte Estate Simonsberg Stellenbosch Merlot Reserve 2007 91 Points

Ripe plum note, blackberry and red fruits of the forest, massively built with concentrated pure fruit, well supported by fragrant oak imparting vanillin and spicy texture, powerful structure, conceiling it’s 15% ABV very well, enough acidity to support, akind to a very ripe Pomerol in a hot vintage.

A style not for the faint hearted, but has it’s place in the vinous world, will reward cellaring over the next 8 years, for now requires at least 6 hours aerating, possibly double decanted.

Best served at 12 degrees Celsius, with well hung game bird, venison such as ostrich or roasted goose.

Exceptional value at R 185 cellar door price, i.e a third the price of a good Pomerol!
