Dagbreek Breedekloof Nebbiolo 2009 85 Points

Dagbreek Breedekloof Nebbiolo 2009 85 Points

Clear, bright cherry brick red with slight brown rim, medium plus concentration, high viscosity, no gas or sediment, very good color for a South African Nebbiolo, in line on what one would expect from Piedmont!

Clean, medium plus intensity, crushed cherries, cassis, spicy earthy note, notes of tar with some hints of dried rose petal, complex layers well supported by integrated oak aromatics. (50% New & 50% second fill) only French oak. Good “aromatics” and Nebbiolo typicity.

Dry, medium plus tannin, crunchy good grip (23 days skin contact!), medium plus acidity, high alcohol evident (14 ABV) new flavors of fleshy Morello and wild cherries, structured mid palate with fine tannic grip, which will only be integrated with time, savory edge with earthy character follows through, medium length and medium complexity, good now but somehow need another 2 more years and should be drinking well from 2014 until 2019.

Very fine debut, single vineyard Nebbiolo from a 1.5 ha, 7 years old block, reasonable yields of 7.5 ton / ha, 13 months in oak, only 1500 bottles made.

A must buy at approximately R 146 retail.
