NEDERBURG WINS BIG: TWICE IN ONE DAY
NEDERBURG WINS BIG: TWICE IN ONE DAY
On the same day Nederburg learned its 2009 Private Bin Eminence had been judged the wine of the show at the 2011 Five Nations Wine Challenge announced in Sydney, the winery also discovered it had won three Grand d’Or and 11 gold medals at the 2011 Michelangelo International Wine Awards, announced in the Cape.
One of the three Grand d’Or medals went to this same natural sweet dessert wine ranked the judges’ favourite in the five-nation challenge involving South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Chile. The other two Grand d’Or winners were the 2010 Winemaster’s Reserve Noble Late Harvest, also a trophy winner in the recent Decanter World Wine Awards and a gold medallist on this year’s International Wine Challenge. The third went to the 2010 Private Bin D252 Sauvignon/Semillon, sold exclusively on the Nederburg Auction.
Amongst the 11 gold medallists were the 2008 Ingenuity Red, a five-star Platter wine; the 2010 Winemaster’s Reserve Baronne, one of South Africa’s most popular reds; the 2010 Winemaster’s Reserve Chardonnay and the 2011 Manor House Sauvignon Blanc. The balance of golds went to wines made for sale on the Nederburg Auction.
Nederburg is the 2011 Platter’s South African Wine Guide Winery of the Year.
