Chocoholics indulged in a decadent affair with celebrity chef Eric Lanlard at the launch of his latest recipe book, Chocolat, at Simonsig Estate’s signature restaurant, Cuvée.

Teaming up with Cuvée’s resident chef, Lucas Carstens, guests were treated to a chocolate inspired luncheon in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands. First up was a most unusual yet triumphant creamy carrot risotto with carrot crisps and blue cheese drenched in a delicate white chocolate sauce.  This was followed by another coup for Lucas – a hearty cocoa crusted springbok loin. The luncheon ended with not one, but two of Eric’s desserts, a chocolate soufflé straight from the pages of Chocolat and an ever so dreamy chocolate tart.

Eric, who’s favourite South African Méthode Cap Classique is the Simonsig Cuvée Royale, also added a dash of South African flair to the London launch of Chocolat at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, by introducing his guests to Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé.

In Chocolat, Eric reveals his tried and tested techniques with a new selection of chocolate-based recipes – from indulgent chocolate drinks, tarts, muffins and mousses to gâteaux, petits fours and elaborate creations for special occasions.  He also gives some valuable tips on how to buy the best ingredients to create his decadent treats.
