WILHELM PIENAAR – NEDERBURG RED WINEMAKER
Nederburg’s newest cellar
team member, Wilhelm Pienaar joined in October 2009 and makes the reds. He
spent two years at the esteemed SupAgro Montpellier in France, adding to his
already impressive post-graduate qualifications in viticulture and winemaking from
the University of Stellenbosch. Pinot noir, often called the heartbreak grape,
is Wilhelm’s preferred varietal for the personal challenges it poses and the
sense of achievement when succeeding in expressing its true flavours and
character. He worked with Pinot noir while in France and also when made
sparkling wines as cellarmaster at JC le Roux.
