ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL FOR DURBANVILLE HILLS WINES’ NOBLE LATE HARVEST

Durbanville Hills Wines’ most recent addition to its portfolio, the 2012 Rhinofields Noble Late Harvest, is now proudly adorned with three gold medals, all three received within the space of a few weeks. The wine took gold on Saturday, 5 October at the 2013 Veritas Wine Awards, only weeks after receiving gold outstanding at the 2013 International Wine and Spirits Competition and double gold at the 2013 Michelangelo International Wine Awards.

According to cellar master Martin Moore, it’s a proud moment when at various competitions, both local and international, a wine receives consistent recognition.

“We wanted to create an exceptional dessert wine, one that not only extends our wine offering but also showcases the quality and diversity of the Sauvignon blanc grapes our cool climate area delivers. Although it’s rather unusual to use this cultivar for the production of Noble Late Harvest, we found that the fruit and acidity of the Sauvignon blanc grapes balanced the botrytis flavours exceptionally. It gives the wine its crisp, fruity character and does not leave a thick, sweet aftertaste.

The wine offers complex aromas of honeycomb, citrus, dried peaches, apricot and fig preserve and provides the perfect ending to a meal, served on its own, chilled or with a selection of cheeses.

The wine is made in limited quantities and is currently only available from the cellar or online from the Vinoteque (visit www.vinoteque.co.za). It retails for R98 per 375ml bottle.
