It was time well spent this morning for half an hour to review the new vintages of Italian Collection with Henry Kotze winemaker and Shane Dean, national sales manager at La Campagnola
Henry now, having full control over the winery and starting to show his imprint as one of South Africa's most gifted "young" winemakers, it was great to see the continuity and partial work he started in 2010 vintages, all 3 wines showing a positive stylistic evolution towards, brighter colour, fresher texture, less extraction resulting in greater elegance and perhaps the most positive changes that definitely worth mentioning is the alcohol going down by about 0.5% on previous vintages, without sacrificing flavour intensity and complexity.
The Nabucco Nebbiolo stood out, by it's sheer complexity and precision, the Tosca Sangiovese driven blend, showing fullness yet there is subtlety and layers making the wine engaging, and the sangiovese rose, Carusso, very much Provencal in style, could not be a better time to discover, perfect spring timing and tipple!
