SWEDEN SERVES NEDERBURG TO CELEBRATE KING'S 40 YEAR REIGN

Nederburg Winemaster's Reserve Noble Late Harvest 2012

Nederburg's Noble Late Harvest was one of two wines chosen for a special country dinner to celebrate the 40th anniversary of His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf as King of Sweden.

He ascended the throne in September 1973.

The dinner, where he appeared with Her Majesty Queen Silvia, was attended by members of the royal court and other dignitaries at Västerås Castle in one of Sweden's oldest cities, established in 990. The original castle dates back to 1200 but the present building was erected in the middle of the 16th century and is now a museum.

The menu for the 60 guests focused on local country fare and featured roe deer served with lingonberries, local river fish, and crème caramel and cloudberries.

The main meal was served with a Swedish Bödel India Pale Ale. The dessert came with a choice of the 2012 vintage of Nederburg's famous dessert wine and a 2011 Tokajicum Darázskö Fumin from Hungary, also renowned for its noble late harvest wines.
