Krone Western Cape Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2012 89+ Points

Krone Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2012

This has to be by far the best still Chardonnay Pinot Noir produce to date and is the latest addition to house of Krone, MCC specialists in Tulbagh, it is only natural that a long overdue still blend follows, a style that have a very strong following amongst consumers, ask me why I am not too sure! guess I am still learning the South African wine market!

A blend of 60% Chardonnay from Tulbagh and 40% Pinot Noir from Elgin, showing a bright straw color with coppery reflections not too dissimilar of Pinot Grigio from Europe.

Clean, moderate plus intensity with ripe citrus burst, grapefruit zest, hints of chalky sandy minerals, leesy complexity with brush of neutral oak derived from a year in cask.

Dry, zesty and textured with high acidity, lively, precise and  linear, nutty mid palate stuffing, spicy, broad and full bodied, yes the alcohol might be high at 14% abv, smartly integrated though, with the acid component lending an energetic almost electrifying backbone making this wine super food friendly lending to a broad variety of pairing options, enjoy lightly chilled. Now until 2015.

Damn fine effort by Rudiger Gretschel and his winemaking team and did I mentioned it is very well priced too at less than R 45 trade price, watch this it's going to be one of the best seller on a wine lists!!
