Right time for Sherry

Autumn in full swing and days getting shorter by the day until mid June, the first sign of winter are the perfect time to start showcasing fortified wines again, such as Sherry, Port, Muscadel, Jerepigo, Ratafia, Pineau style, to name a few, a category which for the wrong reason have fallen out of fashion on wine lists and consumers demand in restaurant and bars environment as far as I can recall has never been that low in the last 5 years, a pity as not only these beverages are the perfect tipple to warm the soul and appreciate their complexity with or without food (hearty soups or tapas) but they represent great values and the local example are as great as their Spanish, Portuguese or French counterparts, at a fraction of the price as always, yet seek a little further the imports looks increasingly good value too.

To start the journey two highly recommended Sherry discovered at Wine Cellar trade tasting at Sophia Bistro, Illovo Square, which should be on everyone table at home and wine lists, give it a  try you will not be disappointed.
