WSET courses planned for Johannesburg
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) are the only internationally-recognised wine courses available in SA. They are the industry-standard in 60 countries around the world and are accepted and requested by most major retail and hospitality chains worldwide – if you want them for professional reasons. But many people who take WSET courses do them for the sheer love of wine and the wish to learn more about this endlessly fascinating subject.
Level 1 is for absolute beginners. It’s a great course for people who’ve had very little contact with wine before hand – I often train waiters or retail staff at this level. There is lots of great, basic information about how wine is made, the most important grape varieties, some ideas of international wine styles, service and storage of wine and lots of food and wine matching which is great fun. The course lasts for 1 day with a certificate and pin at the end of it for successful candidates. Details are here - http://thewinecentre.co.za/?page_id=29
Level 2 is more serious – and more fun! This is by far our most popular course and it basically encompasses all the major wine styles and wine producing countries of the world in a fab overview of everything. It is also suitable for beginners but it would be better if they are at least regular drinkers rather than complete novices. It’s a 2 day course (I‘m running it over a weekend) and people will taste around 40 different wines and spirits on the course, most of them from overseas. You don’t need to have done Level 1 to do Level 2 – it’s more to do with your baseline knowledge. Details are here - http://thewinecentre.co.za/?page_id=10
