PNP Sparkling Wine Brut 75 Points

I guess this is a new addition to PNP own brand wine, with a rather unappealing turquoise blue label! but at R 34.99 it is better priced than the majority of carbonated local bubbly on the market.

My curiosity to purchase the bottle was the fact that it boast a Wine of Origin Northern Cape! not a sexy GU (Geographical Unit) as yet, but kudos to PNP to have choosen a region specific rather than a non descript and confusing Wine of Origin Coastal Region!
I reckoned we will hear more from growers in that Northern part of South Africa as they start selecting specific blocks and perhaps more focus on yields reduction!

Anyway, what does the wine  have? Well it is sparkling, of course with a rather fine perlage, vibrant with a persistent mousse, the color is bright pale straw.

Clean, primary with appley and lime note, not much complexity going on there, straight forward!

Properly Brut with a fairly high dosage, i.e on the off dry side, lending some textural complexity with moderate plus acidity, the alcohol is perfect at 12% abv, means you can sip a fair amount anytime, juicy, uncomplicated, honest style, delivers for what it is and will be perfect for sparkling wine base cocktails (freshly squeeze peaches or orange juice) or whenever a call for something sparkling on a tight budget! Drink on purchase!
