Dalla Cia Stellenbosch Pinot Noir 2011 93+ Points
This 2011 Pinot Noir is Dalla Cia maiden vintage, from 100% Stellenbosch grape, I would confidently go as far as saying it is the most captivating and intellectual Pinot Noir ever produce in Stellenbosch to date, (my long time favourite was the 2003 Vriesenhof CWG), there is luminosity in this wine.
A new quality standards has been raised for the district and will be an extremely hard act to follow or match by any Stellenbosch producer.Well done.
Bright ruby red, translucent, excellent color for a Pinot.
Clean, captivating Burgundian profile, straddling between a perfectly ripe Pommard and a delicate Gevrey, moderate plus intensity, ripe cherries, cranberries, savory plums, delicate mineral stony core, spicy oak lending cedar complexity just perfect.
Dry with moderate plus acidity fresh precise linear, (pH of 3.52 rare in a Stellenbosch Pinot, normally much higher!) moderate plus crunchy tannin, giving just the perfect bite delicately juicy savory plums follows through, moderate alcohol of 13% abv, make this a great table companion, lots of natural acidity, invigorating, persistent lenght.
Irresistible now yet have stamina to last at least until 2028, buy now as productions was only 7 barrels.
Many somm not based in South Africa should remember that Giorgio Dalla Cia was the originator and the genius master blender behind the legendary and long living Meerlust Estate Rubicon, probably one of South Africa's most acclaimed Bordeaux style red blends with a strong international following, from it's inception to the last vintage Rubicon in 2001.
Establishing his own brand, Dalla Cia Wine & Spirit Company in 2001, based in Stellenbosch, also a great spot if you like traditional Italian meals at Pane E Vino Food & Wine Bar.
Their current productions are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux style red blend, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as South Africa's best Husk Brandy, i.e Grappa style distillate.
