Issued by: GC Communications on behalf of: Simonsig Estate
Simonsig Wine Estate has claimed the highest ranking amongst South Africa’s best with four wines listed in the 2014 Top 100 SA Wines as well as a Vineyard Consistency Award as one of the top five cellars in this competition over the past four years.

One of two wine producers to have four wines in the Top 100 tally this year, Simonsig now has a total of 12 Top 100 wines garnered since the competition was launched in 2011 showing remarkable consistency in delivering wines of exceptional quality.

Making its debut in the awards stakes Simonsig Roussanne 2012 was the only Roussanne to make the cut, whilst the Simonsig Cuvée Royale 2010 and Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé 2012 clinched two of only six Méthod Cap Classique spots in the 2014 hotlist. The fourth Simonsig wine to be selected this year is the wooded Chenin Avec Chêne 2012.

“Simonsig Estate has always strived to achieve consistent and trusted quality and the Vineyard Consistency Award is a welcome accolade to encourage my team of hardworking winemakers to aim even higher and never get complacent,” says Simonsig Cellarmaster Johan Malan who believes that this competition gives producers a better idea of what the world market is looking for and guidance to consumers in a super saturated wine market.

The 2014 Top 100 Wines had a record entry of 491 wines competing for a place amongst South Africa’s finest. The high calibre of judges who bring local and international expertise to this competition comprise UK journalist and Master of Wine Tim Atkin, Jamie Goode, UK wine columnist for The Sunday Express, Greg Sherwood of UK wine merchants Handford Wines,  Cape Master of Wine Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright, and winemakers Duncan Savage and Richard Kershaw.
