Dombeya Stellenbosch Merlot 2008 88 Points
www.dombeyawines.com
Clear, bright, garnet with brown rim.
Clean, high intensity, lifted aromatic, no greeness, fragrant ripe plums, dried cranberrries, cassis, black cherries, blackcurrant, complex red berries medley, prominent earthy / stony baked earth note, generously oaked, but very well integrated, showy oak aromatics, lending complex, cigar, tobacco, new leather, light to medium toast, subtle and integrated. complex layers, smoke paprika, and dark chocolate.
Dry, full bodied, medium plus acidity, medium ripe tannins, very high alcohol though (14.5% on label, actually it is 14.9%), fresh texture, crunchy, precise, linear, pure classic Merlot fruit, more Medoc than Pomerol, impressive depth and complexity, savory, this is firmly one of Stellenbosch finest Merlot.
