Splattered Toad Western Cape Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 88 Points

www.splatteredtoad.co.za

Clear, day bright, ruby red with slight brown rim.
Clean, lifted / high intensity, intriguing aromatics akind to a Southern Rhone, Grenache blend character, but this is only Shiraz and Cabernet! Very ripe plums, blackcurrant, cassis, with Cabernet leafyness, spicy Shiraz fruit, opulent and layered with hints of paprika, pungent earthy note, complex oaking with possibility of high percentage of old barrels, alcohol noticeable though.

Dry with medium plus acidity, very fresh, medium plus crunchy ripe tannins, canned tomato, high alcohol evident (14%), full bodied, delicate, spicy red fruits follows through, juicy, subtle minimal oak influence on texture, long aftertaste, now until 2018.

Splattered Toad is made by Cape Point Vineyards and the aim of this fun range with a smiley drunken toad on the label is not only to raise awareness about the endangered Western Cape Leopard Toad that lives in close vicinity to the winery, but the aim is also at restoring their populations, via means of the winery contribution to their protection and for every bottle you will purchase, R 1 is donated to the preservation program.

What is of relevance, the Splattered Toad range over delivers and exceed expectations for their price point, this is another high level, high integrity wines vinified by celebrated Cape Point Vineyards winemaker Duncan Savage at less than R 60 in retail, it is an absolute steal.
