De Grendel Coastal Region Rubaiyat 2007 90 Points

www.degrendel.co.za

Clear, bright, dark cherry red with garnet rim, medium plus concentraion, medium plus viscosity.

Clean, medium plus intensity, ripe blackcurrant, cassis, red plums, leafy, herbaceaous, red bell pepper note in line with Cabernet dominant base, "positive greenness", earthy, wet loam, generously oaked, lending cedar wood, tobacco, lead pencil / graphite and cigar note, complex and layered.

Dry, with medium plus acidity, fresh, the tannin are medium plus and ripe, lending a crunchy profile to the wine, delicately juicy with savory notes of black olives, hints of salty plums, well supported by the ripe blackcurrant fruit, subtle extraction and well structured overall, elegant, yet firm and full bodied in character, alcohol are high (14%) but integrated, still oaky 5 years after vintage, borderline oak regime, but enough fruit for at least +/- 6 years to support, medium plus lenght and medium plus complexity.

Medoc / Cru Bourgeois like at a roughly one third of the price, this Cabernet Sauvignon  (Stellenbosch) dominant blend (87%) with splash of Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot will reward those that can resist it now, with at least another 6 to 8 years of cellaring ahead, now until 2020+
