Overgaauw Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 84+ Points
www.overgaauw.co.za
Medium clear, bright, dark garnet with brown rim, advance color for such a young wine, could it be high pH? over 3.7? high concentration and high viscosity.
Clean, medium plus intensity, peppery, leafy, ripe dark blackcurrant, paprika, very ripe plums, raisin, earthy dark chocolate, light toast coffee beans, subtle oaking, possibly older barrels influence, high alcohol noticeable though.
The aromatics reminds one of the old Cape style of Cabernet, not negative at all.
Dry, medium plus acidity, possibly acidified as it is not fully integrated, fresh, quite powerful structure, spicy and peppery, medium plus grainy tannins, on the drier side, tad over extracted with high alcohol (14%), leathery, the firm structure will assist with the ageing, but will the fruit hold up to 8 years from now? Only time will tell.
Full bodied with medium lenght and medium complexity, now until 2020, if cellared properly, it will be interesting to see the evolutions!
