Hartenberg launches new ultra-quaffable Doorkeeper Shiraz

Hartenberg Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s leading and oldest producers of Shiraz in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, has added a brand new, affordably priced Shiraz, the Doorkeeper 2010, to its lineage of award winning wines.
“Our Doorkeeper Shiraz is an expression of what Hartenberg Estate is able to do with Shiraz in a younger, modern, more upfront style. The wine is intended to showcase the beautiful, fruit-forward aromatics and flavours of the grape,” says winemaker Carl Schultz, who has been responsible for some of the country’s finest Shiraz at Hartenberg for the past 19 years.
Created from younger parcels of Shiraz vines on the estate, which are wonderfully expressive and offer earlier accessibility, the Doorkeeper Shiraz is sold two years from vintage, unlike Hartenberg’s well known Shiraz trio, The Stork, Gravel Hill and the Estate Shiraz, which are sold at four or five years from vintage.
Depicting Hartenberg Estate's rich heritage dating back to 1692, thefocal point on the Doorkeeper Shiraz label exhibits the original “doorkeep”, the heavy door knocker on the historic doors of Hartenberg’s famous underground cellar.
This deep black-red wine treats the nose with the aromas of rich, concentrated spice and plummy chocolate with violet and savoury notes. It has a rich, yet subtle palate, revealing roasted coffee, vanilla toast and a long opulent aftertaste. With the soft and ripe tannins that lend ample structure, this wine pairs flawlessly with robust game, lamb and beef dishes.
The Doorkeeper Shiraz 2010 sells at the cellar door for R70 a bottle and is available at selected boutique wine stores and fine dining restaurants.
Taste the Doorkeeper and some of the finest flagship Syrahs from leading cellars at the Feast of Shiraz & Charcuterie at Hartenberg, taking place on Saturday, 2 June 2012 from 12h00 noon until 17h00. Tickets cost R180 per person, including food and wine tastings, are available online at www.webtickets.co.za.
