Open to every restaurant, hotel group, pub, pizzeria, steakhouse, luxury train
game lodge, and franchise restaurant in the country where each restaurant
for the first time has an opportunity to receive a one, two or three flute award
Timed for the traditional new wine list launches after the Budget announcement
All entrants will have their wine lists and menus listed with their food24 listings
which will increase traffic to the restaurants websites through
South Africa’s largest wine and food portal
There will also be extensive media coverage on food24, wine24 and news24
national media, and social media such as Twitter and Facebook.
And continued advertising for the entrants on the food24 website
All lists will be scored by an experienced team of Judges

Background information
M Squared
Mike Bampfield Duggan and Michael Olivier, are award winning restaurateurs,
wine list consultants and wine writers. As experienced wine list competition
conveners, they have operated as MSquared since 2005. They successfully
convened for five years a national wine list competition, entry to which was
restricted to merchants of a specific product. They, and several wine producers
and suppliers, saw the need for a national open competition in which ALL
restaurants could have their lists judged by a panel of experienced wine list
judges.
Awards
There are three wine list categories:
Short Wine List 20 to 40 wines
Medium Wine List 41 to 80 wines
Long Wine List over 81 wines
Each category is scored to specific criteria and according to percentages gained,
the restaurant is given one two or three flutes. So a restaurant can score itself
before entering.
Advantages for Restaurateurs entering.
With food24 as media partners, restaurateurs entering the competition will have
their wine lists and menus listed on food24s restaurant data base. Also, once
they have won an award, this too will be listed on their entry. If a restaurant
enters and is not on the database, it will immediately appear there with the
menu and wine list entry. There is great value in this advertising on South
Africa’s largest wine and food portal.
Judges
A panel of experienced wine list judges has been chosen and MSquared will
ensure that each list is scored by two separate judges. The head judge will
rescore in event of a discrepancy.
