Simonsig Estate has triumphed with a Top 10 ranking for the second time in just two weeks as
one of South Africa’s leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinotage. In a victorious sequel to the 2012 ABSA Top 10 Pinotage competition where Simonsig Redhill Pinotage 2010 took top honours, Simonsig Sunbird Sauvignon Blanc 2012 has clinched the highly contested 2012 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 award.

The Simonsig Sunbird Sauvignon Blanc 2012, composed of grapes from vineyards in Stellenbosch (73%) and Darling (27%), was selected out of 195 contenders in the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 Awards organised by the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group of South Africa.

“Sauvignon blanc is essentially a variety where the quality originates in the terroir of the vineyard. Painstaking attention to site and clonal selection complemented with scientific canopy management resulted in quality, flavour packed grapes that shaped this wine,” says Hannes Meyer, winemaker of Simonsig white wines.

Aptly named after the vivid malachite Sunbird that is drawn to the Cape’s indigenous fynbos hills where superb Sauvignon blanc is grown, this delicious dry white radiates concentrated gooseberries, white fruit and hints of green pepper.

Its fresh yet silky acidity accentuates the fruit elements leaving lingering notes of tropical flavours on the palate.

Simonsig Sunbird Sauvignon Blanc 2012 sells for R60.00 at the cellar door, and will be available at select wine shops country wide later this year.
