Spioenkop Elgin Sauvignon Blanc 2011 85 Points

Clear, day bright with green reflections.

Clean, medium plus intensity, ripe tropical fruit, lychees, lime, passion fruit, hints of blackcurrant leaf, herbaceous with flint/granite minerals.

Dry with medium plus acidity, leesy creaminess, concentrated and almost viscous in texture (probably due to 7 months lees contact), fresh and vibrant with peppery spiciness, long and elegant.

Moderate alcohol, perfect 13%abv, juicy, a structured and charming Sauvignon Blanc, more Loire than New World in profile.

A wine to follow, as it is made from 6 years old only vineyard, fruit will hold well for next 3 years, but considering the low pH (by SA standard) of 3.14, this Sauvignon will see well in its second and possibly even in it's tertiary development, for those that like their Sauvignon with some bottle age character.
