2013 First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc a fingerprint of Elim wine ward

Issued by GC Communications on behalf of Strandveld Vineyards

Champions of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc from Africa’s southernmost winery, Strandveld Vineyards has achieved another consummate expression of the Elim wine ward with the release of its First Sighting 2013 vintage.

“Our 2013 First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc has the typical Elim terroir fingerprint of minerality and buchu,” says accomplished winemaker Conrad Vlok, who has managed to capture four distinct vineyard blocks in one bottle to represent the full terroir spectrum of the Elim ward.

Fanned by ever present sea winds, these vineyards at the southern tip of Africa produce exceptional cool climate wines.

“The decidedly cool Elim, near Cape Agulhas, is clearly capable of making notably fine Sauvignon Blanc,” is high praise indeed for this youngest South African wine ward from the highly regarded UK wine critic and Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson (JancisRobinson.com).

First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2013 teems with tropical and citrus fruit on the nose and is full on the palate showing great minerality and complexity imparted by a small component (15%) of Semillon and six months lees contact prior to bottling.

Visitors to Strandveld Vineyards, situated in the Elim ward near Bredasdorp, can purchase the First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2013 for R64 at the tasting room or buy it directly online at www.strandveld.co.za. You can also find it at fine boutique wine stores and wine merchants nationwide.
