Simonsig
Redhill Pinotage 2009 has struck the high notes by being the only South African
wine to crack the Top 100 Cellar Selection 2013 list compiled by Wine
Enthusiast, one of the world’s most influential magazines devoted exclusively
to wine and spirits.
Scoring
92 points and a spot amongst the world’s best - tasting director, Lauren
Buzzeo, who reviews wines from South Africa, Languedoc-Rousillon and Israel for
the magazine, says the Simonsig Redhill Pinotage is “an excellent example of
the variety done right.”
With
its annual Top 100 Cellar Selection list, Wine Enthusiast magazine, based in
the USA, aims to inform its readers and wine collectors about exceptional wines
with excellent ageing potential from all over the globe.
Brimming
with assertive dark-fruit aromas the palate of the Redhill Pinotage bursts with
the vibrant flavours of boysenberry, mulberry and plum and is rounded off
beautifully with spicy notes of vanilla, pepper and bittersweet cocoa powder.
Whilst this concentrated, balanced wine is delicious with a big steak now, its
gentle tannins provide the structure to develop more depth and nuance with some
time in the cellar.
