FNB renews sponsorship of the Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition

FNB has renewed its sponsorship of the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition for three more years.
Facilitated by the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group of South Africa (SBIG), the competition was initiated in 2007 to promote innovation excellence and recognise those endeavouring to make wine of pure distinction.
“We are proud to extend our partnership with the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group of South Africa by renewing the sponsorship of the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition. FNB’s association with the prestigious competition demonstrates our commitment to supporting and showcasing the depth of talent in South Africa’s wine industry,” said Stephan Claassen, FNB Provincial Head of the Cape.
Thys Louw from the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group of South Africa is equally pleased with the renewed partnership. “We are delighted to continue our partnership with FNB because our joint commitment has enabled the status of the competition to grow significantly over the years. We look forward to three more years of mutually beneficial collaboration and the roll-out of a series of other events as part of the sponsorship.
The eighth edition of the highly anticipated FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition takes place on 22 October. The partners confirmed that plans are already underway to ensure that this year’s competition continues to set an industry benchmark on wine-making excellence and innovation.
Wine-making is gradually becoming a viable business in South Africa.  According to Wines of South Africa (WOSA), the South African wine industry topped its previous export record in 2013, with volumes sold reaching 525.7-million litres, a 26% increase on the previous high achieved in 2012.
“South Africa is known for its authentic and original wine repertoire.  This competition not only showcases the top winemakers but also creates a solid base for the wine connoisseur and those who are eager to encounter a new world of wine,” says Claassen.
Entries for the 2014 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition close on 3 September. Late entries will be accepted till12 September.
