Hartenberg Longtable in the underground
Sunday, 25 May 2014
Fancy a French
inspired feast in a time-honoured cellar, then don your beret and
head out to the popular Hartenberg Estate, when this Stellenbosch stalwart
plays host to the Bottelary Hills Wine
Route’s seasonal ‘Pop Up’ Winemakers Lunch on Sunday, 25 May.
Food and wine lovers can
look forward to an afternoon filled with pizzazz and pleasure in the estate’s
famed underground cellar when Craig Cormack, a renowned chef on the Cape’s
gourmet scene, conjures up a magnificent Sunday lunch fit for King Louis IX and the
chosen wines.
His four-course menu
which celebrates his love for classic French cooking, infused with a hearty
twist, will share the spotlight with royal cellar gems from leading estates
jotted along this sub-route of the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes,
such as Hartenberg, Mooiplaas, Kaapzicht and Beyerskloof.
From his classic Waldorf
with a Winelands spin to his Beef Bourguignon with Boland
flair, Craig will coax the senses all afternoon long, while the wine will do
the talking during a relaxed pre-tasting before guests will be ushered
downstairs for the languid lunch.
Nestled north-west of
Stellenbosch, the Bottelary Hills Wine Route reveals a somewhat ‘hidden world’
of quality wine to both discerning wine drinkers and those who appreciate Cape
heritage. Steeped in history, this wine route is home to some of the oldest
wine farms in the country and most of them have been family-owned for many
generations. This rich sense of history, commitment and family radiates in both
the wines and the welcoming atmosphere of this area.
The Bottelary Hills
Winemakers Lunch at Hartenberg costs R275 per person and includes a wine
tasting, the four course meal, and a glass of wine per course.
The tasting is from
12h30 until 13h00, followed by lunch. To book your seats contact
Tel: (021) 886 4310 or
