Hartenberg Estate Stellenbosch Chardonnay
Carl Schultz, Hartenberg Wine Estate’s much lauded winemaker, has been rewarded for his astute winemaking skills in yet another respected wine competition, securing a Top 10 selection in The Christian Eedes Chardonnay Report 2012.
Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay 2010 was awarded 4½ stars and is one of five Stellenbosch Chardonnays to make the Top 10 in this year’s Chardonnay Report.
“A forceful wine which manages to retain balance and finesse,” is how Eedes describes the Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay 2010 which shows plenty of ripe fruit with attractive oak and tangy acidity on the palate. With its creamy texture and a long, dry finish, Eedes credits this wine with having “real presence”.
The Christian Eedes Chardonnay Report 2012, presented by Sanlam Private Investments, is chaired by Eedes himself with two experienced co-judges, Roland Peens of the Wine Cellar and James Pietersen, beverage manager for Balducci’s and Belthazar restaurants.
The 60 wines reviewed in the report were selected based on the performance in local and international competitions and those considered by Eedes as the best in their field.
Carl who ages all his wines in the estate’s impressive underground maturation cellar until they have reached their full potential, will only release the Hartenberg Estate Chardonnay 2010 at the end of this year. The wine is, however, available on special request from the cellar at R78.
Hartenberg Estate is situated on the Bottelary Road off the R304 to Stellenbosch. Open 6 days a week for tastings, picnic lunches and wetland walks, but cellar tours are by appointment only. Contact Tel: (+27)21-8652541, Email: info@hartenbergestate.com or visit Hartenberg Estate
